Juneteenth Candlelight Labyrinth Walk

**Weather Update: With rain in the forecast, we will be moving this event indoors! Plan to enter at the East (Circle Drive) entrance of the Temple. We will have live music in the foyer, and the labyrinth in the Meditation Chapel. Use 201 S. River Blvd, Independence, MO 64050 for directions.

Take time to walk, reflect, and be open to awakening on this significant day in history. By candlelight, we will walk on the labyrinth in sacred community with songs of freedom.

June 19, 1865 is the day that over 250,000 enslaved black Americans were finally freed in the state of Texas, over 2 years after the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation. Though this day occurred almost 150 years ago, the need for freedom, liberation, and system disruption is of equivalent importance in our world today.

According to National Museum of African American History and Culture, "The historical legacy of Juneteenth shows the value of never giving up hope in uncertain times." Take time to lament current systems and structures of oppression, inequality, and violence in our world, while also seeking hope for the alternative future of freedom we must create together.
